Try an Art Experience!

Gesture drawing:  Look at the overall shape and use simple lines to make the shape on the paper.  Ten seconds is all it takes, giving you no time to invent.  Just move your hand on the paper to correspond with what you see.

Don't Look drawing:  Look only at the object in your hand, not the paper.  The result will surprise you!  (And is just for fun.)  Try it with either hand!

Negative space drawings:  Draw only the spaces between the objects, or only the scene outlined by the coming together of branches in a landscape.

Line drawings:  Just an exploration of the edges of things.  Give yourself different "rules" just for fun.  (Drawing only the outer edge of something results in a "shadow image" of the object, for example.)

Scribble drawings:  Scribble the shape.  Add edge lines after the shape is defined, or leave as is.

Charcoal "Place and erase":  Very cool way to make a drawing!  Charcoal on, charcoal off.  Draw with erasers; add darks with charcoal!
